aboutReleased in August 1996, Windows NT4 was a development of the Windows NT 3.1 (1993) and Windows NT 3.5 (1995) operating systems. The Windows NT core was a totally different operating system designed for true 32bit operation unlike DOS/Windows 9x which was a hybrid 16/32bit system. Visually Windows NT4 included the Windows 95 desktop design with the now ubiquitous taskbar and start menu. Windows NT4 was the predecessor to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows NT4 was much maligned due to key shortcomings such as poor Plug and Play hardware support and limited multimedia functionality. Windows NT4 is the most difficult version of Windows to configure. Windows NT4 does not have a Dial-Up Networking component installed by default, unlike every other version of Windows, therefore you need to install and configure the Remote Access Service (RAS) (Windows NT4's alternative name for it's Dial-Up Networking component) before you can create a connection to Vicnet. Please note: Vicnet Customer Service is unable to support Windows NT4 Server. related sites |
